This 6 week course is designed to fill the gaps for those parents who want to teach their children  (all ages) to self-regulate, develop emotional resilience.
Helping children, even three year old’s, understand and name their emotions goes a long way to children developing emotional awareness and management skills.
 
Emotions can be overwhelming, yet they are part of who we are. Teaching your child to identify and deal with emotions as they arise is a valuable life skill and leads to life-long emotional resilience and self-regulation.
This training provides the skills, ‘tools’ and strategies to deal with the inevitable emotions and challenges life gives all of us; children and parents.

What are we doing in this course?

We meet online once a week and look into a certain aspect of child development and ways to apply strategies for positive outcomes.

COURSE CONTENT:
Children’s brain development shape how they learn and grow, and healthy brain development is critical for children to thrive. Brain growth is affected by many factors, including the child’s sex, age, and home environment. Understanding how the brain develops helps us recognise that as parents we can optimize our children’s ability to learn strategies to become self-aware and self-regulate.  

This is largely missing from our education and learning and increasingly neuroscientists are pointing to the need to begin as soon as possible to provide the building blocks for a child’s emotional awareness and development that lead to an embedded understanding and behaviours of emotional regulation. 

This course focus on this unrecognised aspect of parenting including:

» Understanding the stages of the developing child brain from birth
» Understanding the teenage brain.
» A biological imperative; need for connection and attachment.
» Deep Listening and availability (undistracted).
» Insights into stress response and social engagement system ( attachment)
» Resolving conflicts.
» Boundaries around behaviour.
» Help children understand their emotions
» Stress reduction for parents: self- calming strategies for overwhelmed parents.

The sessions are held using the Zoom video platform. Weekly sessions of 45 minutes over a 6 weeks period.
If you miss a session there will be a recording of it so you can watch it in your own time.

THE TRAINER

Rita Riccola is one of New Zealand’s leading mindfulness trainers and the author of the book “The Practice of Mindfulness and Balance”.

She is a former teacher and a trained mindfulness teacher who has completed courses with Mindful Schools USA.

Rita has been a Vipassana and yoga practitioner for 30 years. In 2000-2002 she attended a number of Barry Long’s ‘Course in Being’ seminars, (Barry Long was one of Eckhart Tolle’s teachers).

Her 2 day Mindfulness Facilitation Course has been taken by more than thousand individuals, including school teachers, life coaches, psychologists and counsellors in both New Zealand and Australia.

She have provided staff training for numerous schools across New Zealand to help integrate mindfulness practice to the curriculum. These courses are designed to meet the growing need in all sectors to offer Mindfulness training.
